This is my friend Ryan Hansen. He is a seasoned martial artist with a brown belt in a grappling style called Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Ryan has had some encounters in life, one including being stabbed and another being hit over the head with a pint glass. Both ended with him in the ER.  If you look closely he has some scars on his face from the pint glass, and he is sporting a black eye from practicing Jiu Jitsu.

 Today I shot with my friend Paul Beattie around San Francisco. We shot film all day. Mostly 35mm, but I also had one of my land cameras today. If you don't already know, Land is the company that invented the polaroid  picture, but they were bought out by Polaroid. These photos are all Fuji Instant Film that I scanned in. 

My portrait today is a girl that Paul and I randomly met while waiting at a cross walk. Her name is Nellie Bowles and she is a staff writer at the San Francisco Chronicle!! What an awesome find.

He is a 24 year old Nerd. You may have seen him working at your local grocer. He enjoys playing a role playing game called Dungeons and Dragons that he plays with his closest friends. This RPG requires a rule book that is hundreds of pages long and a large imagination. Like Will, he also plays table top war games.

This is the first Portrait of a series that I am starting. 

The series is going to be 3/4 portraits of people that are considered nerdy because of the hobbies they participate in. The idea is to remove them from their environments to see them by only their faces, and a black article of clothing.

This is Will Coburn. 

A 25 year old chef, and an avid player of table top games such as War Hammer. Table top games are war strategy games where you paint the pieces which you play your opponent with. Typically for hours.
